Art Theft*PLEASE DON'T OVERREACT JUST SOME THOUGHTOk guys don't get alarmed I've had nothing stolen of mine that I know of. I just wanted to voice some of my thoughts.(PLEASE DON'T RANT AT ME IF YOU HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO YOU AND YOU LEAVE A COMMENT I WANT CIVILIZED CONVERSATION. IF I GET RANTS THEY WILL BE HIDDEN SORRY BUT I DON'T WANT TO HEAR RANTS)
Lately many artists I watch have had art stolen from them and had drama over it all.(Not naming names because if it has happened to you you already know who you are) My question is what is the point in stealing others art in the first place and perhaps DA might want to create some sort of screening for such things. Just a thought not that it is likely to happen. I mean if you thought of yourself as a true artist you wouldn't take others work and use it as your own. I know some might just want the glory without putting in the work but how do you get and satisfaction out of it. I mean you know what I'm talking about when you finish a piece of art and you feel a sense of accomplishment or the fun of trying to further your own talent.
It seems more and more drama has moved into DA. I thought I left all of it behind in Myspace but it looks like drama goes everywhere you least expect to find it. Why do I bring up drama when I wanted to talk about art theft. Well that's what it brings in boat loads. Which just causes stress and tensions in a place that is supposed to be a community where we joy the art of others and share our own art. If you were just going to just steal and not show off your own talent why would you come to a place that is for appreciating art. I mean if you don't feel your art is up to snuff why not just ask for tips to help you get better from someone or find a tutorial. I mean DA has tons of them. That way you don't get in trouble and you have the self gratification that you created something of your own design. Talking about design stealing of character designs is probably worse then just out right theft. I mean people put hard work into their creation and to have them stolen is probably one of the worst things that could happen. If you want an awesome character just take into consideration of what you like color shapes and even your own style can lead you to your own unique character.
Another thing is that I know it is frustrating to have something stolen form you but to create journals and have others go after that person is no way to behave either. I mean be the bigger person flaming is absolutely unnecessary. Just talk to them I believe that word are more effective then having people tell off these people. If you have problem that persists go to someone higher and ask them for help with the problem. Admitting that you being wrong is the biggest thing a person can do and thing should be left at that. I mean to continue by either thief or artist the attack is just childish. I mean why watch someone if you choose not to like them. Sure everyone is entitled to their own opinion artist and watcher, but to just start drama is not what DA is about at all. I mean think of why you started DA in the first place. I'm sure it wasn't for drama and if it was I think you need to rethink your reasons for being here.(SORRY I SAID NO RANTS AND I'M KIND OF GOING ON ONE SO TIME TO BACKTRACK TO WHERE I'M GOING TO WRAP UP THINK JOURNAL)
If you every see anything of mine being stolen or retraced without permission, please in a civilized manner ask them to take it down. If you see they haven't done so talk to me and I'll speak with them. I will see this if I see or hear that any of my characters are being stolen that will be then end of it. I will not trust that my work is safe and I no longer post my work and all I have done will be removed. I know that is drastic but as i said I wouldn't want to start drama that I want nothing to do with. I will continue to come and do thinks I will just send work to people by other means.

Neither do I but you never know what may happen. I just felt like voicing some of my thoughts on the subject and hoped that maybe it could help try to find non confrontational and dramatic ways to deal with such things. I mean the site should really have a filter or some sort of button to use to flag possible art theft you know, but as of now nothing. Artist and their friends often take such things into they're own hands and the results are not really pleasant and cause the atmosphere on the site to just go down hill. I mean didn't we join here to have fun and meet knew artists or just to further our skill. I think it's a shame what DA has come to.

So yeah. I agree with you again. I'd find some places around here with arguments about... Anything really. I just don't see why people do this. I look at DeviantART as the greatest places to meet Artists all around the World! I really find it amazing. And yet people are tearing this beautiful place down.
Anyways, here's my story.
So I was on another site, TLKFAA, and I was making some characters for people on there. So then on one of them, someone said something like, "XD Oh my gosh, I seriously just saw this on DeviantART!" So I had to reply that I never posted it there. They flipped out after I told them that,(must've known I was on dA, but they're here to though) and they told me they were going to search for it. I decided to help and search for my own art. It is my responsibility to do so. So then I posted a Journal to get help to my find my picture. I think I had gotten some comments about them wanting to teach them a lesson for stealing my art when they find the thief. But I mentioned that they can find it, BUT, they have to give me the link to it and I will deal with it. I didn't want anyone to do this for me, it was my art and they really didn't have any business to say anything to the person who stole my art and it was my Responsibility. But other then that we really didn't find the thief and I don't know if it's still up here or they came across my worry and took it off with out my knowing. So the chaos of all that is gone but I only really wanted them to help me find it and not help me solve it, if you know what I mean.

It is a problem, and throuwing fits on it solves nothing. Simply taking a calm aproce normally works.
I've seen thefted art a few times, mostly from young artist. I've also seen quit a few from artist outsie the united states. I like to think in most cases it's a matter of misunderstanding rules and regulations due is age or because of trouble reading the rules.
Hope this isn't ranting, I tired for intelligent disscusion.

Your story wasn't a rant by the way^^ I only consider it a rant if you were accusing the person. I know what you mean it is the Artists responsibility to handle such things not their watchers. If others do it they seem to overreact and attck the person in question. I believe word are more affecting in such cases not assault. I mean if you talked with the person you two can come to some sort of understanding or agreement without drama or harassment.

Yeah. It went sort of out of hand when they wanted to flame the person... and Yes. I bet sorting things out with the person properly, you could even give them an understanding of what it's like to have your art stolen and hopefully they wont steal any more and realize how art you make yourself is much more important to you and more fun to.

I agree with you, and I don't understand why people do steal art.
I have seen a few profiles with people freaking out about art theft. And another friend of mine some time ago had her character being used without her permission. She handed it, but has been more cautious since with her characters. I mean that she seemed to have handed it much better than the other artists, she tried to explain to the person who stole from her why he needed to take the artwork down or at least credit her. But he didn't, so he got banned.
I also agree with you that drama seems to be more common here, and I hope it stops or at least lessens a bit. This place is wonderful for helping artists improve and try new styles within their own.
I hope the last part of the journal never happens to you.
